This lovely wine is grown and made by none other than Dave Phinney. who long ago jettisoned his The Prisoner label to work on other, more meaningful projects.  Our Lady of Guadalupe (honoring the folks who do most of the work among the vines) Pinot Noir may be the MOST "meaningful," with Phinney purchasing fallow land in Santa Barbara County's Santa Rita Hills sub-region, composting it for two years, then finally planting it to several specifically-chosen clones of Pinot Noir.  It is ironic that this new, small-production project is emerging just as nearby Sea Smoke has been acquired - by the same conglomerate that purchased The Prisoner several years back!

Decanter awarded this 96 Points, the highest rating that conservative rater has conferred on a Phinney wine.  I tasted it myself just a week ago, finding it remarkable for reflecting the sandy, wind-whipped location AND conferring a certain generosity of fruit for which Dave Phinney is so well-known.  Our Lady of Guadalupe is undeniably ripe and flavorful, yet maintains the energetic "anxiety" which preferers of this special Pinot Noir place so hope for.
