‘Twas love at first glance, my admiration for this ancient label when we began carrying Bernadins a dozen years back, and for this lover of the classic style it’s been love ever since. This is not the sweet Muscat for which Beaumes de Venise is most famous. It is dry, vibrant, characterful, decidedly old school Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre (plus a rumor of Grenache Blanc). Bernardins nearly goes to Crozes-Hermitage with its vibrant perfume and tangy, complex palate. It’s a refreshing, comforting alternative to the way so many Rhone producers have gone “modern”. – As that label declares!
